- Fun Fact: My four daughters have intensified our family’s focus on musical theatre and youth soccer. I have attended hundreds of musicals and soccer matches over the years. I also coached 40 seasons of recreational youth soccer, but this is my first time on stage.
- Dancing Experience: Daddy-daughter dance nights with Y-Guides.
- Why did you choose to support Charlotte Ballet? The Charlotte Ballet and the arts organizations of Charlotte are a major part of what make Charlotte a truly world-class city. This gala is a unique format where I can dance representing two great organizations making an impact – the Charlotte Ballet and the YMCA of Greater Charlotte. We need every leader in Charlotte to identify an area of personal interest and commit their volunteer time to making an impact in order to be the region we aspire to be. Charlotte is a welcoming city and the arts and the Y’s in Charlotte connect people and neighborhoods in unique ways

- If you weren’t dancing, what would you be doing? I’ve always been fascinated with how the body functions, so probably something within the world of Sports Medicine.
- Favorite role that you have danced: My favorite role that I’ve danced was the final duet in Alejandro Cerrudo’s Silent Ghost. The pas de deux was so moving and I loved performing it with my partner.
- Favorite thing about Charlotte: Charlotte’s natural beauty! I love visiting all of the different parks in the city and experiencing the changing of the seasons
About the YMCA of Greater Charlotte
David has a lifetime affiliation with the YMCA. He was most recently on the YMCA of Greater Charlotte’s Board for six years. Prior to and concurrent with that term he served as the Diversity and Inclusion Committee Co-Chair for six years, on the Harris YMCA Branch Board, the Gateway Village Branch Board (which he Chaired), the YGuides Program (which he Chaired) and on the national Diversity Council for YMCA of the USA for five years. David’s father volunteered for the Raleigh Y for over 30 years serving in a variety of roles and involving his children in the Y as lifeguards, referees, camp counselors, and YGuides. He was a counselor at a Y camp and spent many weekends at camp working in the food service or running activity stations such as archery. David participated in Community Building Initiative’s LDI program on behalf of the Y (Class 2). Diversity, Equity and Inclusion have always been fundamental to the Y as we impact communities and families all over the Charlotte region.
I have selected the YMCA as my charity of choice focused on Camps, After School, and Sports programs for lower socio-economic and at risk youth. In a world where sports teams and camps are extremely costly, we have to do all we can to mitigate this “pay to play” environment and enable more equity and access. I want to help the Y with prioritizing this fundamental strength and partnerships/collaborations. Kids need a constructive place to go after school for fellowship and sports practices as well as summer camp experiences for day-camp or overnight camp. It also helps keep them focused on learning and grades as they have goals and positive teams/cabins they look forward to seeing.
